Valentine’s Day is celebrated every year all over the world. It is an occasion that is expected to strengthen the love and intimacy that exists among married couples.

People have expressed different opinions about how this yearly event that is absolutely dedicated to love and romance began. Some have traced its origin to St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity.

Others believe that it started in the time of the Roman Empire. This may be true because St Valentine approachflung flowers and notes up at his window.

One of these young people was the daughter of the prison guard. Her father allowed her to visit Saint Valentine in his cell. Sometimes both of them would sit and talk for several hours. She helped him to keep his spirits up. She agreed that he did the Saint Valentine left his friend a little note, thanking her for her friendship and loyalty. He signed it, “Love from your Valentine.”

The whole world believed that that note started the custom of exchanging love messages on Valentine’s Day. It was written on February 14, 269 A.D, the day that Saint Valentine died. Now, every year, people remember the sacrifice that he made on this day. More important, they think about love and friendship. And when they think of Emperor Claudius, they remember how he tried to stand in the way of love, and they laugh because they know that love cannot be defeated!

Valentine’s Day, otherwise called ‘lovers day’, is celebrated every February by giving flowers, gifts and cards to those we love. We do this in honour of Saint Valentine. The event is synonymous with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of ‘Valentines’.

Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged cupid. In the U. S. greeting card associations estimate that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, which makes it the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, beside Chirtmans. The association estimates that, in the US, men spend twice as much as women on Valentine’s Day.

Gradually, February 14 became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers.

The world’s most expensive Valentine’s Day card was dated back to 1790. The intricately designed card, filled with heartfelt messages would fetch up to £4,000, if auctioned today. It is currently housed at the British Postal Museum and Archive and its keepers have no intention of selling it. The card is a handmade puzzle that unfolds to reveal poetic messages – a far cry from the short notes written in today’s Valentine’s cards.

On the outside of the card, the inscription reads:

”My dear the Heart which you behold, Will break when you the same unfold, Even so my heart with lovesick pain, Sure wounded is and breaks in twain.”

The effect of Valentine’s Day on the sexuality of your partner cannot be over-emphasized. One of the best ways to receive the best sex ever known between married couples is to give your spouse an unforgettable gift, this valentine. A spouse’s gift is like a rare gemstone; no matter how your partner looks at it, he or she will see love, romance and beauty reflected in it. When couples exchange love gifts at Valentine, such gifts are often well appreciated and treated as special. Giving gifts this valentine day is the best way to express your love and receive from your spouse the best sexual treat that you can ever imagine.

The soul of intimacy is giving and sharing. And while giving and sharing gifts this season, let it be voluntary, not by compulsion or obligation. Remember, the spirit of Valentine’s Day requires you to give thoughtfully and the best gift that you can give to your spouse is ‘yourself’. So give your spouse a surprise gift that is beyond his or her expectation. It may be something that he or she has been longing to have for a long time. For instance, saying ‘I love you’ in a special way or taking your partner to a unique spot and making love to him or her there will definitely go down the memory lane.

The fact is that we feel loved when we receive gifts and it is heart warming when we know that at least one special person in the whole world cares about us. Valentine’s Day gifts are very important, especially when we know the need of our partner.

When you present a gift to your partner on Valentine’s Day, you are saying to him or her ‘Your are my best’. The gift, no doubt, will not only attract his or her attention, it would strengthen the sexual intimacy and fellowship that you enjoy in the relationship. Apart from that, it helps to maintain the tide of erotic feelings between both of you.

In a nutshell, a gift to your partner is just saying to him or her, ‘l was thinking of you in all ramification of oneness, sex inclusive’ You can give a flower, perfume, lingerie, boxers, valentine ring, movie tickets, perfumed candles, et cetera. Just imagine what you want to give and do it.

Have a happy Valentine’s Day.

LIVE – IPL auction
Mumbai Indians bought South African sensation JP Duminy for USD 950,000. His base price was initially set at USD 300,000.

Shaun Tait went to the Rajasthan Royals for USD 375,000.

But it was the two Englishmen attracted the most attention as well as the highest bids.

Franchises bid fervently for Andrew Flintoff before Chennai Super Kings finally acquired him USD 1.55 million.

As expected, Bangalore Royal Challengers left no stone unturned as they acquired former England captain Kevin Pietersen for USD 1.55 million.

“I think its a very worthwhile investment,” said Vijay Mallya, owner of the Bangalore franchise, about his latest acquisition. Mallya said he was ready to dish out a bigger sum to sign on Pietersen.

Fidel Edwards was sold to Deccan Chargers for his base price of USD 150,000.

Chamara Kapugedera found no bidders and remains unsold. He will be up for consideration at the end of the auction. Australian wicket keeper Brad Haddin and Stuart Clark remained unsold as well.

Owais Shah, who was part of Middlesex’s victorious campaign last year, found himself being fought over by Kolkata and Delhi before Bangalore joined the fight. But Delhi were certain they wanted the English batsman and outbid Bangalore to acquire him for USD 275,000.

Paul Collingwood, the English all-rounder, was also acquired by Delhi for USD 275,000.

Tyron Henderson, the big-hitting South African all-rounder who also played for Middlesex last year, was the surprise package. His base price was set at USD 100,000 but was sold at USD 650,000 as Rajasthan and Deccan Chargers fought fiercely to outbid one another before Deccan Chargers finally bowed out.

Phil Jacques, the Australian opener with a base price of USD 100, 000, remained unsold.

Ashwell Prince (USD 150,000), Andre Nel (USD 120,000) found no takers either.

Both Bangalore and Chennai fought for English all-rounder Ravi Bopara (base price: USD 150,000) until Punjab joined the race at USD 400, 000 and eventually acquired him for USD 450,000.

Luke Wright (USD 100,000), another England all-rounder, didn’t attract any bids. Neither did Sri Lanka paceman Nuwan Kulasekara (USD 100,000).

Another Sri Lankan Thilan Thushara was about to be sold for his base price of USD 120,000 before Kolkata expressed their interest and joined Chennai in the race but Chennai eventually got him for USD 140, 000.

The auctioneer mistakenly declared NZ opener Jesse Ryder (USD 100,000) unsold before realizing that Bangalore had bid for him. As it turned out, there were more than a few parties interested before he went to Bangalore for USD 160,000.

Kyle Mills, the Kiwi all-rounder, was bought for his base price of USD 150,000 by the Mumbai Indians.

Samit Patel (USD 100,000), the England all-rounder, Bangladeshi Sakib-Al-Hasan (USD 75,000), South African wicket keeper Morne van Wyk (USD 100,000), Jerome Taylor (USD 150,000), Steven Smith of NSW (USD 75,000), Ashley Noffke (USD 100,000) found no takers.

West Indian Dwayne Smith was brought for his base price of USD 100,000 by the Deccan Chargers.

South African Ghulam Bodi (USD 100,000), Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful (USD 75,000), West Indian Darren Powell (USD 150,000) remained unsold as well.

There were no bids for Tamim Iqbal (USD 50,000), Victorian all-rounder Jonathan Moss (USD 50,000), leg-spinner Bryce McGain (USD 50,000), Kiwi all-rounder James Franklin (USD 50,000), Victorian Adrian Blizzard (USD 75,000), Ramnaresh Sarwan (USD 100,000), Michael Klinger (USD 75,000), Kaushalya Weeraratne (USD 50,000), Prasanna Jayawardene (USD 50,000) and Dominic Thornley (USD 50,000).

Mashrafe Mortaza (USD 50,000) became the first Bangladeshi to evoke any interest from the franchises as Punjab and Kolkata fought vigorously for him. Kolkata had bought no one at the auction yet and were desperate for a fast bowler after losing Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul. There were discussions among the franchises before they decided to raise the bid every time. The process sped up towards the end as the auctioneer virtually ran out of breath. As the bids went up to USD 500,000 the crowd broke into an applause but neither franchise had given up. After close to twenty minutes of intense bidding, he was finally sold to Kolkata for twelve times his base price, USD 600,000.

South African Yusuf Abdullah (USD 25,000), South African Daniel Harris (USD 50,000), Kemar Roach (USD 50,000), Aaron Bird (USD 45,000), Michael Dighton (USD 50,000), Michael Hill (USD 50,000) and Brett Geeves (USD 45,000) didn’t attract any bids.

Tasmanian batsman George Bailey was sold to Chennai for his base price of USD 50,000.

NEW DELHI (AFP) — Satyam founder B. Ramalinga Raju created a 300-strong network of companies to divert funds from the fraud-hit Indian outsourcing giant, an government minister said Wednesday.

The corporate affairs minister’s comment came as a court in the southern city of Hyderbad threw out bail applications by Raju, his brother and former managing director Rama Raju and former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas.

“It was a very complex process he (B. Ramalinga Raju) had adopted,” Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chanda Gupta told Indian television network CNN-IBN in an interview.

“Our information is that there was a network of almost 300 companies and funds were diverted from one company to (another) and then to (a) third.”

He said the government believes other people were involved in India’s biggest fraud, which has been a bombshell for corporate India.

“But if you go into the systematic inspection and investigation of the structure of the company, you come to the conclusion that the whole thing (revolves) around the Raju family,” Gupta said.

B. Ramalinga Raju was arrested earlier this month, days after declaring he had falsified a bank balance of over one billion dollars for India’s fourth-largest software services exporter and inflated its profits.

Meanwhile, Satyam shares jumped 17.6 percent or 8.3 rupees to 55.45 rupees Wednesday after the company said it had named investment bankers Goldman Sachs and Avendus Capital to identify strategic investors and a potential buyer.

Satyam’s shares have risen nearly 100 percent in the past week from 27.75 rupees as bid talk has swirled and new government-appointed board members have sounded positive about funding plans to secure the company’s future.

Talk of a bid has mainly focused on Larsen and Toubro Ltd., India’s biggest engineering company, which last week tripled its stake in Satyam to 12 percent, and has said it may raise its holding to 15 percent.

Such a move under Indian law would oblige the company to make an open offer for a further 20 percent of Hyderabad-based Satyam.

The acquisition of Satyam could vault Larsen and Toubro, which runs a fledgling software business through its subsidiary L and T Infotech, into the big leagues of the flagship Indian IT industry.

Satyam operates in nearly 70 countries and has a blue-chip client list that includes 185 Fortune 500 companies.

In the immediate aftermath of the scandal, Satyam shares lost close to 90 percent of their value.

Meanwhile, the government is seeking to make all former top executives, board members and auditors of Satyam potentially “answerable” for failing in the “proper discharge of their fiduciary duties” and stop them leaving the country, the Press Trust of India reported.

“Affairs of the company were carried on with intent to defraud” by company bosses as well as with “an attempt to enrich themselves unjustifiably,” the government said in a petition to the Company Law Board.

The petition was submitted last week but only made public Wednesday, the news agency said.

The board is a quasi-judicial body with powers to rule on complaints involving companies.

Some former top officials were “either fleeing the country or beyond reach in order to evade or stall the investigation,” the government added.

The government has named a six-member board containing some of India’s most respected business figures to sort out Satyam’s affairs.

Significantly increasing the utility and competitiveness of its Web-based e-mail service, Google is enabling an experimental ability to read, write, and search Gmail messages even while not connected to the network.

Google believes almost religiously in cloud computing, the idea that computer applications and data live on the Internet rather than on PCs. But there are times when the network is inaccessible, and generally Web-based applications like today’s Gmail effectively seize up under those circumstances.

Offline sidesteps that problem, the classic example being a busy executive traveling on a plane. And offline Gmail access begins a new chapter for Google’s ambition to appeal to business customers for services such as Google Apps, of which Gmail is a component.

“This is a feature we’ve heard loud and clear the enterprise wants,” said Todd Jackson, Gmail’s product manager.

In coming days, Google will let Gmail users test the Web-based e-mail service even when there’s no network.

(Credit: Google)Trying to sign up business customers generally means wooing them away from the dominant e-mail products, Microsoft’s Exchange server software and Outlook PC software. Google and Microsoft began in separate spheres, but are ever-closer competitive rivals, each with a strong cash-generating business that can be used to subsidize forays into other markets.

There’s more, too. Google Apps customers will get another major offline option “soon,” too: Google Calendar access, though not initially the ability to create new entries. If the organization’s administrator enables the “New Features” option, each person within that organization will get access to the calendar, Google said.

New features help make Gmail more compelling for business customers, but for many, a bigger problem is the fact that Gmail still sports its beta tag, said Gartner analyst David Smith.

“That’s one of the biggest stumbling blocks for businesses,” Smith said. “You’re hard-pressed to find any businesses who decide to go into production with anything that a vendor calls beta, no matter how good it is.” Google promises customers will get 99.9 percent availability through a service level agreement for Google Apps, which includes Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs.

Cloud vs. PC
And Microsoft, while not turning on a dime, isn’t counting on a future that consists exclusively of PC-based Office. It already has a product, Office Live Workspace that lets users share and view–but not edit–Office documents online, and the next version of Office will run in a browser.

Philosophically, though, Microsoft remains firmly tethered to the PC, while Google wants to move as fast as possible to Web-based applications.

“We think the browser is the ideal platform for deploying all kinds of applications. That’s where Google is placing its bet,” Jackson said. “But people are traditionally limited by the speed and connectivity of the Internet. We want to fill in those gaps.”

Google already developed open-source technology called Gears that helps further this cloud computing agenda by storing Web data on PC, and Gmail, used by millions, could help coax more people to install Gears. That, in turn, could help solve the chicken-and-egg problem that currently means it’s not worthwhile for most Web application programmers to build in Gears support.

Greater Gears support could help other cloud-computing companies, including Zoho, which already has offline access for its Web-based e-mail application.

It’s not as if offline Gmail were completely impossible. People can set up software such as Outlook or Thunderbird to read and write e-mails, for example. But offline Gmail means people won’t have to learn a new interface.

Offline Gmail has been in testing for months, though Jackson wouldn’t share specifics about exactly how long.

What can offline Gmail do?
“We wanted the user experience to be almost identical to the experience you get when you’re online,” Jackson said.

Offline Gmail stores a copy of a user’s inbox on a personal computer. Most people will have to install it, a process Google walks you through, but it’s built into Google’s Chrome browser.

Once Gears is installed and offline access is enabled, the software automatically detects when a person’s network connection is working. If the network is good, Gmail works as usual. If it’s bad, it goes into offline mode, sending unsent messages and retrieving new ones when the connection is restored.

And if the network is dodgy, a person can use the intermediate “flaky connection mode,” which for example queues a message to be sent immediately by storing it to the hard drive then actually sends it as soon as it can. Google positions this as useful for coffee shops and poaching a neighbor’s weak-signal wireless network, but I think of this as “tech conference mode.”

When enabled, offline Gmail begins by downloading, in the background, a copy of a user’s archive to the user’s personal computer. But the software stores about 10,000 e-mails, so heavy users won’t get a complete archive.

Gmail automatically updates the local cache of messages with new and recently read items and with messages associated with a particular label on which a person has clicked, Jackson said.

Imperfect
Not everything works, though.

One big missing piece is the ability to add attachments to new messages, though attachments are visible with existing messages.

Another is the contacts tab, so forget about managing e-mail lists or adding new addresses while offline. The autocomplete option works, though, so there’s no need to start remembering e-mail addresses.

English-speaking Gmail users will be able to enable offline access as Google gradually adds the ability over the next “couple” of days, said Gmail engineer Andy Palay in a blog post. “Offline Gmail is still an early experimental feature, so don’t be surprised if you run into some kinks that haven’t been completely ironed out yet,” Palay said.

What kinds of problems occur?

“We’ve seen issues with the local cache getting out of sync. You have to refresh the browser, and that gets you going again,” Jackson said. “In some rare circumstance, it has to be fully flushed, so we ask to disable and re-enable the feature.”

But these should be unusual problems, he said: “It’s been in testing for awhile on all 20,000 Googlers, so it’s gotten some good testing.”
