Yahoo Inc. on Wednesday announced a new version of its mobile search engine, oneSearch 2.0.

Sunnyvale-based Yahoo (Nasdaq: YHOO) said the new offering is part of its strategy to provide broader mobile phone Internet use options.

Yahoo said the service lets users personalize and search by cellphone, and also provides open access to communication technology for software developers.

The oneSearch program will let users type or use voice-recognition technology to ask questions and then receive answers, search results, or product recommendations.

In addition, Yahoo introduced the Blueprint cross-platform programming language for developers along with a monetization engine for online advertisers.

Internet search providers such as Yahoo and Ask.com have been competing to overcome the limitations of Internet search on cell phones.
